What is the millioncampaignhomepage?
The mch was created in August 2006. It was inspired by Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage. Our basic premise, however, was not to make money but to put together a site for people and organisations involved in furthering social and environmental harmony.
How do I get involved?
We are giving away blocks of 25 x 25 pixels to people involved in furthering social and environmental harmony. For more information about ordering a block of pixels, please click here.
Who are you?
The Million Campaign Homepage was conceived by Matthew Edwards and created by Small Fish Online.
What kind of organisations are you looking for?
The only basic rules are that we are looking for co-operative organisations who are working for public and planetary service rather than private profit, who do not use violence, and who do not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, gender, age, class, or any other arbitrary hierarchical distinctions. The Million Campaign Homepage is dedicated to people operating from or inside the UK.
Beyond that we are particularly interested in providing space to organisations and individuals who are at an early stage in their careers, who operate on a small scale or on a local grass-roots community basis. The oxygen of publicity to such nascent projects is imperative in allowing them to grow and develop, and mighty oaks grow from tiny acorns. One of the greatest obstacles to positive change is that of a mainstream media too dominated by vested commercial interests, which often unconsciously as well as consciously prevents smaller entities having the right, opportunity and space to use their voices.
What is the best format to send my logo in?
Since we are offering blocks of 25 x 25 pixels, the ideal graphic would be a copy of your website Favicon* - if you have one. Otherwise, a 25 x 25 pixel graphic, which represents your group, is fine. JPEGs and GIFs are the preferred formats.
*A Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con) is short for 'Favorites Icon.' A Favicon is a multi-resolution image included on nearly all professionally developed sites. It is usually displayed on the Address line and in the Favorites menu within a web browser. The Favicon allows the webmaster to further promote their site, and to create a more customized appearance within a visitor's browser. Often, the Favicon reflects the look and feel of the web site or the organization's logo.
How do I create a Favicon for my website?
It's free and it's easy - just click here to create one now. For free image-editing software, please click here.
What is the point of the mch?
The guiding principle of MCH is synergy. When people co-operate and work together what they achieve is greater than the sum of the parts. By including a large variety of different campaigns, organisations and motivated individuals in one place, we hope to increase links between not only them but the wider public as a whole. Our planet and our society are in a crisis. When there is an emergency, you need as many ambulances - going in the same direction, at the same time - as possible.
Can I help you in any other ways?
Certainly. We rely on word-of-mouth and the kindness of strangers to spread the word about mch. We don't have a marketing or advertising budget and we do not allow any external advertising on MCH sites. Please Shout at people about this site. Go on. It will feel good. If you want to go really hog wild, hell, grab this here logo and stick it on your site for all to see. A link would be appreciated muchly.
The Million Campaign Homepage is administered by 2 slightly deranged cyber-buccaneers whose planet-saving mission requires a constant supply of chocolate biscuits and Rum. Unfortunately that costs money. So in order to keep us alert and on the job, please donate generously. Remember, kids: Pennies + Pounds = Rum.
OK, so aside from your obvious passion for Rum, why should I make a donation?
We are trying to build a global network of MCH sites which will eventually be linked from one central site. The vision is a long-term one. Setting up and running an MCH site for its first 2 years can cost between £50 and £80, depending on the site configuration. Once an MCH site is up and running in a particular location, the crew running that site can recoup this initial cost through the use of their own donation buttons. We're not asking for thousands of pounds, just a modest amount, a few pounds here and there, to help us set up and run these sites. If you have found this site useful in any way at all - and are feeling generous - please hit the button below. Thank you.
